Aroma (the essential oil) therapy (being the massage).
There is a growing interest in Aromatherapy from within the medical sector. It has long been shown to have therapeutic benefits by working on the mind, body and the spirit. The effects are triggered by the inhalation of oils through the olfactory organ when massaging which, in turn, gives a sense of wellbeing to the body.
Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy and has no proven side effects for cancer patients. However, when the client is undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we do not advocate the use of essential oils whatsoever. The essential oils take approximately 20 minutes to enter the blood stream and, although there has never been any reason to expect these to interfere with other treatments, they are extremely active agents, with demonstrable effects on the body.
We recommend that therapists use only carrier oils for massage, such as almond oil, rather than creating a blend using essential oils. Clients should avoid buying essential oils from commercial outlets without first seeking advice from a qualified therapist.
